Some music doesn't just entertain — it transports.
On Saturday, June 14th, Butterfly Club welcomes a duo steeped in the roots of American music, assembled with one purpose: to bring the golden age of early jazz back to life: Jen Ambrose & Annieville Blues.
Jen Ambrose is a Medford-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose musical DNA runs through Delta Blues, Swing Jazz, Folk, and beyond. A seasoned performer who has shared stages with the likes of Michael Franti, Colin Hay, and Jackie Greene, Jen brings a rare depth of feeling to everything she plays; whether she's fingerpicking, flat-picking, or simply standing at a microphone making you forget the room.
Annieville Blues is a force of nature. Playing piano since age five and performing professionally since fourteen, she grew up absorbing jazz and blues at the source; literally next door to the children of jazz legend Louie Bellson and singer Pearl Bailey. She has recorded, performed, and taught alongside some of the greatest names in blues and boogie woogie, from Pinetop Perkins to Maria Muldaur, from jazz clubs in Paris and Venice to festival stages across the United States.
Together, they have assembled an evening of 1920s-40s early jazz standards; the real thing, played the right way, in a room built for exactly this.
